Rangoon Restaurant Water Festival Celebration: A Huge Success!

On April 13th Rangoon Restaurant was filled with local chapter supporters to celebrate the Burmese Water Festival (which also marks the Burmese New Year - Thingyan), eat delicious Burmese Food, and learn about our local chapter. Special Thanks to Rangoon Restaurant for hosting this event and preparing such great food, and to Thelma Young and Jeremy Woodrum of the U.S. Campaign for Burma in D.C. for joining us and sharing their messages of support.

The Water Festival celebrations, on the day of the full moon, is simply called so because people throw water at one another all over the country. During this event Susan Zingale Baird informed supporters of our organization, Thelma Young from the National Chapter talked about the National Campaign's efforts, Peter Wai talked briefly about the water festival itself as he sported his "Free Burma" tshirt!

Pete has developed t-shirts (with the generous help of Fred Yavorsky from Twist Communications - thanks Fred!). We raised over $700 in tshirt sales so far thanks to you. There are more! For $15 you can have one, too! Proceeds will go to The Whispering Seed, a charitable orphanage and training program designed to help Burmese refugees who grew up in the border camps to learn skills to develop sustainable income on the Thai-Burma border. Look on the left side bar to find out how to learn more about The Whispering Seed, and how to buy a tshirt.
